She had an older brother who tragically died at 18 years old, after being involved in a drink-driving car accident. From an early age, Shelley was obsessed with beauty and fashion, and in 2004 she won the Miss Louisiana Teen USA contest, and the same year was named Miss Teen USA – part of her reward was a scholarship to the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, plus a contract with the Trump Modeling Management agency.
During her reign as a Miss Teen USA, Shelley was a part of the Miss Universe Organization, and would make appearances in various TV shows, while she also made her acting debut in the TV series “Passions”. Shelley previously attended Destrehan High School, where she excelled academically.
